Vehicle Replacement Policy During Breakdowns In Monthly Rentals

Within the enchanting landscape of the United Arab Emirates, characterized by its diverse terrains, driving presents a remarkable adventure and is undoubtedly an activity worthy of investment. Amonthly rent car in Dubai means freedom of movement, but with reservations. Monitor mileage, do not forget about insurance, return the car on time and clean. Read the contract, take photos of the car at the reception and always file a police report, even if the scratch is “almost invisible.”

Preparation and care are what will make your rental truly comfortable.

The first reaction is not to panic

If the car stalls on the highway, turn on the “emergency light” and drive the car to the side of the road. Left on the road? Sit in the passenger compartment with your seat belt buckled. Call the emergency number that should be included in the contract. Remember: self-repair is prohibited. Even a small one.

Most rental companies in Dubai provide roadside assistance 24/7. They will quickly come to change the wheel, charge the battery or tow the car to the service. If repairs are not possible, they will provide a replacement car. And often right on the spot, if the situation permits.

Insurance is not a formality

UAE law requires basic insurance — Third-Party Liability (TPL). It only covers the damage to other participants. But repairing your car is another story.

In order not to remain in debt, apply for:

  • CDW (coverage in case of an accident with a franchise),
  • SCDW (cancels the franchise),
  • PAI (covers medical expenses of passengers and driver).

Franchise without SCDW — usually 1,500–2,000 AED. Drivers under the age of 25 or with less than a year of experience may be charged a surcharge of up to 7,000 AED or 25% of the damage. Without a police report, there’s no substitute, even if it’s not your fault.

Mileage and fuel: the intricacies of the contract

Most companies allow 3,000–5,000 km per month, less often — up to 8,000 or unlimited. Exceeded the limit? Get ready 0.50–2.00 AED per km.

As for fuel, the “full—full” rule works. Did you get a car with a full tank? Return it in the same condition. Didn’t have time to stop at the gas station? You will receive a double price for gasoline and an additional fee (20-50 AED).

Hidden costs: be careful

In addition to the lease, other obligations will have to be taken into account.:

Some expenses may appear a week or a month after the car is returned. For example, if the fine from the RTA came later.

Car refund ahead of schedule? The pitfalls

Did you return the car before the end of the month? Forget about the discount. The company will recalculate the price according to the daily rate. Sometimes it won’t refund the money at all. Only credit note, valid for 60 days.

But the extension is easier. The main thing is to give 2-3 days notice. Sometimes a car will have to be replaced if yours is already booked. The price may change. Especially in high season.

Prohibited actions and fines

Off-road driving? Deprives you of insurance. Were you in an accident under the influence of alcohol? Pay the entire amount of damage, including idle time of the car.

A trip to Oman? Only with permission, additional insurance and package of documents. Without this, there are serious consequences.

Some companies remotely block the car if you approach the border. And for violating the conditions of the trip — a fine, refusal to replace the car and full financial responsibility.
